S.H.I.N.E Program
Supporting Hearts and Individual Needs in Education (SHINE)–is a learning support program at Open Door Christian School designed to help students grow academically while recognizing and celebrating the unique way God created each child to learn. Through individualized intervention, targeted learning support, and specialized dyslexia instruction, SHINE provides students with the tools and encouragement they need to overcome challenges and experience success. As a Christian school, we are committed to knowing our students personally, meeting them where they are, and helping each one grow with confidence, purpose, and the knowledge that they are wonderfully made by God.

Eligibility
Eligibility will be a decision made by the Advisory Team. Written documentation administrated by a licensed Psychometrist or Psychologist is also a requirement for eligibility in the R.I.S.E. program. Students’ professional documentation must be current to be enrolled in the program. *In the event that a student does not obtain a formal ruling, he/she may still qualify for assistance from the R.I.S.E. program here at Open Door Christian School exclusively if he/she has met other requirements for enrollment. Final eligibility will be determined by the Advisory Team, Administration, and classroom teacher.
Accommodations
Accommodations in SHINE are offered to students based on their documented learning difference and their individualized needs as noted on their Individual Education Plan (IEP). Accommodations are implemented with consideration of the resources the school is able to provide, which will be determined by our SHINE team. Accommodations do not compromise or alter the student’s curriculum, and does not guarantee a passing grade for a class.
Support Services
Offered to Open Door Christian School students 1st -12th grade who have specific learning differences, deficits, and learning styles.
The goal of the program is that students will be able to function both academically and socially in the regular classroom through the appropriate interventions and accommodations.
Educates students on how to use specific learning strategies as well as study techniques to close the academic learning gap that is currently present.
R.I.S.E. is NOT a tutoring service or a Special Education class
Dyslexia Intervention
Open Door Christian School’s Dyslexia Interventionists have received a certificate of completion through Region 9 Service Center for the program, Reading By Design. Reading By Design: An Individualized Literacy Intervention is a systematic, multisensory approach aligned with research-based practices for developing literacy. This dyslexia intervention follows an intensive, explicit, and cumulative design for remediation of reading and writing skills at all grade levels. This comprehensive program addresses the following components: phonological awareness, sound-symbol association, six syllable types, written spelling patterns, morphology, syntax, reading fluency, and comprehension. Progress monitoring and review lessons are embedded throughout the program to inform student progress and promote reading and writing automaticity.
Participants must have a professional diagnosis of Dyslexia to participate.
Each student will receive 4-5 sessions of dyslexia therapy per week for 45-60 minutes each session.
