Leveled Reading

One of the goals of our school is to create life-long learners. Being able to read well is essential in meeting this goal. Reading impacts every area of education - even mathematics, because you need to read and understand directions and word problems. Students must have strong reading skills to be able to succeed in all other subject areas.

Open Door understands that all students learn and develop at different speeds. Frustration levels can be high if a child doesn't comprehend what he/she is reading or is learning at a slower pace. The opposite is true as well. Some students are frustrated because they need to be challenged more.

At the beginning of the school year, each student is tested to determine what level he/she is on for reading.
